## Calculating the Weight of Carbon Steel Plate: A Practical Guide

To calculate the weight of a carbon steel plate, follow these steps:

1. Determine the dimensions: thickness, width, and length.
2. Obtain the density of carbon steel, typically 0.284 pounds per cubic inch (imperial) or 7.85 tons per cubic meter (metric).
3. Use the formula: Weight = Width * Length * Thickness * Density.

For example, for an A36 discrete, mill rolled plate: Width = 48 inches Length = 96 inches Thickness = 3/8 inches = 0.1875 inches Density = 0.284 lb/in³

Plugging these values into the formula: Weight = 48 * 96 * 0.1875 * 0.284 = 245 pounds.
