How to Use
- Calculate: Instantly get weight per meter and total weight
- Select Angle Type: Choose between equal or unequal angles
- Pick Size: Select from standard dimensions (e.g., 50×50 or 60×40)
- Select Thickness: Choose appropriate thickness for selected size
- Enter Length: Input angle length in meters/feet
Calculation Principle
All calculations use steel density of 7850 kg/m³ (0.284 lb/in³) with these formulas:
Equal Angles:
Weight = (2 × Leg Length - Thickness) × Thickness × Density
- Metric: (2 × L - t) × t × 0.00785 kg/mm
- Imperial: (2 × L - t) × t × 0.2844 / 144 lbs/in
Unequal Angles:
Weight = (Leg1 + Leg2 - Thickness) × Thickness × Density
- Metric: (L1 + L2 - t) × t × 0.00785 kg/mm
- Imperial: (L1 + L2 - t) × t × 0.2844 / 144 lbs/in
FAQ
Q: What steel density does the calculator use?
A: Standard carbon steel density (7850 kg/m³). For stainless steel, multiply results by 1.015.
Q: Can I calculate weights for partial lengths?
A: Yes! Enter any decimal length value (e.g., 2.5m or 3.75ft).
Q: Why don't some thickness options appear for certain sizes?
A: The calculator only shows standard, commercially available thicknesses for each angle size.
Q: How accurate are the results?
A: Results are accurate to ±0.5% for standard rolled steel angles.
Q: Can I use this for aluminum angles?
A: Results are steel-specific. For aluminum (2700 kg/m³), multiply by 0.344.
Q: Is this tool free for commercial use?
A: Yes, 100% free with no limits on calculations.
