Calculation Principle

All calculations use steel density of 7850 kg/m³ (0.284 lb/in³) with these formulas:

Round Bars:

Weight = (Diameter² × Length × Density × Conversion Factor)
  • Metric: 0.006165 × D² (mm) × L (m)
  • Imperial: 0.2844 × D² (in) × L (ft)

Flat Bars:

Weight = (Width × Thickness × Length × Density × Conversion Factor)
  • Metric: 0.00785 × W (mm) × T (mm) × L (m)
  • Imperial: (W × T × 3.403 × L) / 12 (in/ft)

Square Bars:

Weight = (Side² × Length × Density × Conversion Factor)
  • Metric: Side² (mm→m) × L (m) × 7850
  • Imperial: Side (in→m)² × L (ft→m) × 7850 × 2.20462

FAQ

Q: What steel density does the calculator use?
A: Standard carbon steel density (7850 kg/m³). For stainless steel, multiply results by 1.015.

Q: Can I calculate weights for partial lengths?
A: Yes! Enter any decimal length value (e.g., 2.5m or 3.75ft).

Q: Are the results accurate for other metals?
A: Results are steel-specific. For aluminum (2700 kg/m³), multiply by 0.344.

Q: Why don't you include hexagonal bars?
A: This tool focuses on the three most common shapes. Contact us for custom shapes.

Q: How do I calculate weight for multiple different bars?
A: Calculate each separately and sum the totals.

Q: Is this tool free for commercial use?
A: Yes, 100% free with no limits on calculations.
