What is Angle Roll or Angle Roll Machine?

The term “Angle Roll or Angle Roll Machine” is commonly used in the United States to refer to a profile bending machine that is specifically designed to bend metal angle sections into curved shapes. However, this type of machine is also commonly referred to as a “section bending machine” or a “profile bending machine” in other countries.

THE ADVANTAGES OF DOUBLE-PINCH MACHINES

3-roll double-pinch angle rolls(Roll Bending Machines) are economical profile bending machines that are relatively easy to operate. The side rolls are positioned to the right and left of the top roll and are on the same axis. The axis of each roll helps make the bend. The “back” side roll (at the far side of the feeding point) also functions as a back gauge to square the plate for proper alignment. This eliminates the need for someone to assist the operator. Three-roll, double-pinch section bending machines do not require the operator to remove, flip, and then try to square the plate a second time after pre-bending, as is the case with three-roll, initial-pinch machines.

What is Angle Roll?

Angle Roll (aka, Angle Roller, Angle Iron Roller, Angle Roll Machine, Section Bending MachineAluminum Bending Machine) are roll bending machines used to roll out shapes of materials to a specific radius or diameter. 

Angle Roll Machines use a combination of power-driven hardened steel rolls to form elongated metal shapes into rounds, semi-round, or variable radius components. Structural steel bending and rolling services such as large-scale components, including for wide flange beam bending, are among the most demanding metal modification tasks of angle rolls.

The rollers of angle rolls are the round parts that spin to bend and shape the metal within the machine. The rolls are power-driven through a mechanical gear assembly or a hydraulic drive system. The distance between the rolls is adjustable to allow for various shapes and to force the material into the desired angle to be formed. Each angle roller has at least one pinching roll, that’s used to feed the metal into the machine.

What can Angle Roller use do?

The angle roll can bend tubes, pipes, round & solid square & flat bars, angle irons, tee sections, H & I beams, and U channels to over 180 degrees and into circles or arcs, and is often chosen to create circular pieces.

Angle roll machines (angle iron rollers) can form a variety of materials such as steel, titanium, aluminum, stainless steel, and most other malleable metals. These metals can be tubes, pipes, flats, angles, solids, extrusions, or just about any other profile you can imagine.

Working Principle of Angle Roll Machine

The basics of an angle roll machine operation are fairly simple. The process consists of taking the flat edge of the part, feeding it into the angle iron roller, and using the pinching action of two of the rollers the third roller is brought up to begin the bending process. These 3 rollers are then driven simultaneously forward and backward bending the metal to the shape desired in a series of “passes”. Depending on the yield strength of the material and the desired final shape the number of “passes” will vary. The benefit of using this method to form parts is that there is a smooth radius created and a smooth transition of radii from parts with varying radii.

Pyramid-type angle roller: It is a symmetrical bending roll bending machine.

  • Working Phase 1#: Loading of the part to be bent: in this phase, the profile is inserted in between the rolls. The part can be supported if necessary and is not subject to deformation stress.
  • Working Phase 2#: Roll movement in order to achieve the pinching position: during this phase the profile is blocked in between the rolls and can be moved forward and backward rotating the rolls. The pressure exercised is lower than the one necessary to deform the profile.
  • Working Phase 3#: Working phase: in this phase, the pressure increases, and the deformation of the profile takes place, by translation of the profile and movement of the rolls.
  • Working Phase 4#: Unloading of the profile: the pressure on the profile is eliminated and is increased the space between the rolls so that the profile can be extracted from the machine.

The working principle has a direct influence on all phases, but mainly on the second and third. It is clear that, in order to load the profile on the machine, a sufficient distance between the rolls must be present. It is also clear that, in order to block the profile in between the rolls and to apply pressure, it is necessary that this distance is reduced. Une or more bending rolls must be capable to move in respect to the others.

Double-pinch Angle Roll Machine: both of its forms are machines for asymmetrical roll bending machines. The double-pinch angle roll can perform asymmetrical and symmetrical bending processes, and the special structure makes it a better pre-bending ability.

  • Steps 1#: Loading bending metal profiles – the metal profile is inserted in between the top roller and the right lower roller. The metal profile can be supported if necessary and is not subject to deformation stress.
  • Steps 2#: The right lower roller up to the top roller movement achieves the pinching position – the metal profile is blocked in between the rolls and can be moved forward and backward rotating the rolls. The pressure exercised is lower than the one necessary to deform the profile.
  • Steps 3#: Pre-bending between the top roller and the left roller – the right roller slowly rises, starts rolling, and performs pre-bending between the top roller and the left roller.
  • Steps 4#: Working phase – in this phase the pressure increases and the deformation of the profile takes place, by translation of the profile and movement of the rolls.
  • Steps 5#: Pre-bending between the top roller and the right roller – The left roller is down and the right roller is raised. The material is sent to the left and the three rolls begin rolling, pre-bending between the top roller and the right roller.
  • Steps 6#: Unloading of the metal profile – the pressure on the profile is eliminated and is increased the space between the rollers so that the profile can be extracted from the machine.

It is clear that, in order to load the profile on the machine, a sufficient distance between the rollers must be present. Different Roll Mold Styles
