How to Calculate the Weight of UPN Channels

Unequal Angles Weight Calculator

To determine the weight of a UPN (European standard channels) profile, you’ll need to follow these steps:

  1. Input Profile Dimensions: Enter the dimensions of the UPN channel, including height, width, and thickness.
  2. Calculate Volume: Use the formula V=(W×L×T)+2×((HTL×T) to calculate the volume, where:
    • V is the volume
    • W is the width of the UPN channel
    • L is the length of the UPN channel
    • H is the height of the UPN channel
    • T is the thickness of the UPN channel
  3. Determine Weight: Multiply the calculated volume by the density of the material used (typically in kg/m³) to obtain the weight.

Example Calculation

Let’s take an example of a UPN channel made of mild steel:

  • Length: 2.5m
  • Width: 0.15m
  • Height: 0.08m
  • Thickness: 0.012m

Using a density of 7850 kg/m³ for mild steel, we convert the dimensions into meters.

Here’s how the calculation works:

Volume=(0.15×2.5×0.012)+2×((0.08−0.012)×2.5×0.012)

Volume=0.0051m3

Multiplying the volume by the density yields a weight of 40.035 kg or 88.31 lbs.
