Introduction to the seven functions of the busbar bending machine

A busbar bending machine is a specialized tool used for bending and shaping electrical busbars. A busbar is a flat strip or bar of copper or aluminum that is used to conduct electricity within a power distribution system. These busbars are typically used in switchgear and control panels, where they are used to connect and distribute power to various electrical components.

Busbar bending machines are designed to bend busbars into specific shapes and angles to fit the requirements of different electrical applications. The machines can be manual or fully automated and are equipped with different bending tools to accommodate different busbar sizes and shapes.

Functions 1#: Bending

The traditional bending machine is a vertical bending machine, and the molds are arranged up and down.
The upper mold is installed on the slider, and the lower mold is installed on the workbench. When working, the slider drives the upper mold move downward to complete the bending work of the workpiece.
However, when the workpiece is narrow, long, or thick, such as copper bars and steel bars, it is not suitable to bend on a vertical bending machine.

  • First, there is no need to occupy the working time of the large bending machine,
  • Second, copper bars and steel bars themselves are not suitable for processing on vertical bending machines.

Busbar bending machine

In response to the above problems, the Italian EUROMAC company has developed a CNC horizontal busbar bending machine specially used in the processing of copper bars and steel bars – DIGIBEND 360 CNC. When bending, the workpiece is placed on the workbench, and the bending of the workpiece is in the horizontal direction. Completed on the Internet, it is very convenient to use.

Like the traditional bending machine, the busbar bending machine also controls the bending angle through the stroke of the mold. The first piece is tested for bending. When the bending angle reaches the required angle, the program is stored in the busbar bending machine. The next time a workpiece of the same thickness is bent at the same angle, the program can be called out and processed directly.
Using the busbar bending machine, it is convenient to bend copper bars below 15 X 200 mm and steel bars below 12 X 200 mm.

When the workpiece is bent, the bending radius may be different, which can be done by selecting inserts with different radii. The standard bending lower die is 4V lower die, and the V-groove widths are 16-22-35-40mm, which is used for plates of different thicknesses.

Non-injury bending dies

When using a standard bending lower die to bend the workpiece, since the edge of the V-shaped groove and the plate are in line contact, this will leave two indentations on the surface of the plate, which will damage the workpiece on the one hand On the other hand, it may hinder the flow of current in the copper bar.
Indentation can be eliminated by selecting a non-traumatic bending tool. The contact between the mold and the plate is surface contact, and the contact surface moves together with the bent workpiece to ensure good surface contact with the plate at any time so that the indentation on the surface of the plate can be eliminated.

Function 2#: Punching

Select the punching die base and die, the busbar bending machine can punch holes in copper bars and steel bars, and the maximum punching diameter is 30 mm.
The size and shape of the hole are determined by the punch and the lower die, such as round, square, rectangular, oblong, and special-shaped holes. The position is determined by two factors: the upper and lower positions can be completed by adjusting the positioning support of the mold; the front and rear positions can be positioned by the rear stop ruler with several holes or the manual rear stop ruler.

Function 3#: Cut

Select the cutting die, the busbar bending machine can complete the cutting work of copper, aluminum, and steel bars.
Steel row with a maximum shearing capacity of 12 X 150 mm.

Function 4#: Flat bend

Select the flat bending mold, the busbar bending machine can perform flat bending work on copper bars and steel bars at a minimum angle of 90 degrees.
Standard molds have a bending radius of 50 mm inner diameter. For different plate thicknesses, it can be adjusted by replacing different gaskets. The minimum copper and steel bars are 4 X 40 mm.

Function 5#: Elbow

Choose the pipe bending mold, the busbar bending machine can bend the standard gas pipe.
There are two types of pipe bending molds: one is double-pressed pipe bending molds, which can bend gas pipes up to 2”;
The other is the rotary pipe bender, which can bend the gas pipe up to 1 1/2″. It is more convenient to use the rotary pipe bender.

Function 6#: other functions

  • U-shaped bending: choose a U-shaped bending mold, and the busbar bending machine can perform 180-degree U-shaped bending on the copper bar and steel bar, choose the bending mold applied to the bar, and the busbar bending machine can The bar is subjected to a 180-degree U-bend.
  • Straightening of profiled steel: select the straightening mold of profiled steel, and the busbar bending machine can straighten the profiled steel.

Function 7#: CNC back gauge (optional function)

When ordering a busbar bending machine, it is optional to add a CNC backstop. In this way, when performing continuous bending, the size of each step can be limited by the back gauge, which is convenient to use. The punching position on the copper bar can also be limited by the back gauge.

Two applications of busbar bending machines

One of the primary applications of busbar bending machines is in the manufacturing of switchgear and control panels. These machines enable manufacturers to produce high-quality busbars that are precisely bent and shaped according to the specific requirements of the panel. This ensures that the busbars fit perfectly into the panel and that there are no loose connections or short circuits.

Another application of busbar bending machines is in the construction of electrical substations. Busbars are used extensively in substations to connect various electrical equipment, and the ability to precisely bend and shape these busbars is essential for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the substation.

Final Words

The busbar bending machines play a critical role in the manufacturing and construction of electrical equipment, ensuring that the busbars used in these applications are precisely bent and shaped for optimal performance and safety.
