Enhancing Plate Rolling Precision: Side and Overhead Supports of PR Plate Rolling Machines

In the world of plate rolling, precision and safety are paramount. Plate rolling machines are versatile tools that can handle a wide range of tasks, from crafting cylindrical workpieces to bending plates into complex shapes. To achieve the highest level of accuracy and safety in this process, the incorporation of side and overhead supports is crucial.

The Role of Side and Overhead Supports

Lateral as well as Central Overhead Supports are optional on nearly all Double Pinch Plate Rolling Machines. Hydraulic side supports and overhead supports help plate rolling machines accommodate larger diameter finished parts.

In the plate rolling process of some large radius workpieces, call for overhead support if the rolled plate is being sent high into the air. overhead supports can prevent light materials from collapsing when rolled to large diameters. They provide additional support from above, reducing the risk of material distortion.
Side supports are essential for stabilizing long and heavy plates during the rolling process. They help prevent deflection and ensure accurate rolling. A side support can also assist in preventing light materials from recurving toward the floor if the radius is very large.

The combination of side and overhead supports can assist in supporting the sheet during the process and avoid any back bending caused by the unsupported weight of the material itself.

Lateral and Central Overhead Supports: Elevating Plate Rolling Efficiency

Lateral and central overhead supports represent optional yet invaluable additions to nearly all double pinch plate rolling machines. These hydraulic marvels play a pivotal role in accommodating larger diameter finished parts.

In the plate rolling process, particularly when dealing with large radius workpieces that soar to considerable heights, the presence of overhead supports becomes a necessity. These supports act as guardians, preventing the collapse of lighter materials when rolled to expansive diameters. They provide an additional layer of support from above, effectively reducing the risk of material distortion.

Side Supports: The Stalwart Stabilizers

Side supports are the unsung heroes of plate rolling. They play an indispensable role in stabilizing lengthy and weighty plates during the rolling process, effectively preventing deflection and ensuring pin-point precision. Moreover, when working with materials of varying weights and sizes, side supports act as a safeguard, preventing materials from curving toward the floor, especially when the radius is exceptionally large.

Enhancing Plate Rolling Precision: The overhead and side supports of the PR plate rolling machine

Overhead supports prevent lighter materials from collapsing when rolled to large diameters and must be sized according to plate thickness and shell diameter. An overhead support is not a crane and it is designed to sustain nominally only 40 to 60% of the total shell or cylinder weight. A side support can also assist in this function to prevent light materials from re-curving toward the floor if the radius is very large.

Central Overhead Supports of Plate Rolls

The overhead support is the top bracket, located on the top of the right frame. It consists of a movable bracket, a fixed bracket, a support cylinder, chains, rollers, tie rods, etc. The bottom of the fixed bracket is connected to the top of the right frame, and the top of the fixed bracket is anchored to the foundation through a tie rod; the support oil cylinder is installed in the middle of the fixed bracket, and the expansion and contraction of the oil cylinder drives the movable bracket to move up and down along the fixed bracket. There is an outrigger on the movable bracket that can extend into the cylinder. When rolling, the movable bracket extends upward and the outrigger supports the cylinder to prevent collapse of the same body.
The support cylinder is equipped with a pressure sensor and an overflow protection device, which can provide overflow protection when overloaded; the overflow pressure can be adjusted by the control system according to different plate thicknesses, plate widths and cylinder diameters, for better safety.

The use of the overhead support can greatly increase the rolling efficiency and rolling accuracy, making the rolling cylinder safer and faster.

Front and Rear Side Support

Located on both sides of the PR series plate bending machine, the feed side is the front support, and the discharge side is the rear support. The front support consists of brackets, rollers, and cylinder correction devices (including correction blocks, correction cylinders, slide rails, etc. ), a radial claw, and a support cylinder. The cylinder correction device is driven by the cylinder and can correct the axial misalignment of the cylinder. The block of the correction device is equipped with a radial claw, which can be radially extended by the support cylinder. Pull the steel plate to make the rolled cylinder and cylinder joint convenient accurate, and easy to spot weld. The rear support does not have a cylinder correction device or a radial claw.

When rolling, the two supports are raised to support both sides of the cylinder to prevent the cylinder from collapsing; when feeding, the two supports are laid flat and can be used as rollers.
The use of front and rear side supports can greatly increase rolling efficiency and rolling accuracy, and the safety of the rolling cylinder is also greatly improved.

Conclusion

In conclusion, side and overhead supports are not just optional additions; they are the guardians of precision and safety in plate rolling. The seamless coordination of these elements ensures that your plate rolling process is efficient, accurate, and secure, resulting in high-quality, flawlessly rolled workpieces. Embrace the power of support, and elevate your plate rolling endeavors to new heights.
